The “thieves-in-law”, whose names cannot be pronounced? The - TopicsExpress

The “thieves-in-law”, whose names cannot be pronounced? The last two big scandals – “Banca de Economii” case and Chisinau Airport concession – will remain in people’s memories as blatant cases of corruption, indifferently from the attempts of the Parliament or Constitutional Court to present politicians as clean in front of the people. Recently, the Parliament qualified the decision regarding the reduction of the state’s quota in the ownership structure of “Banca de Economii” as being one perfectly legal. This fact represents a frail attempt to clean the image of the Pro-European Coalition, which is incapable to hide the greedy instincts for stealing that got into its leaders. Thus, the politicians that are in charge will not be able to remove the names of crooks and rogues they are called, but they will continue to be tolerated for a while because of Vilnius. As a result we have a new version of the “thieves-in-law”. This time they got to power. The “thieves-in-law” Everyone knows the Soviet version of “thieves-in-law” – representatives of the criminal world that have enormous authority between thieves and that guarantees the management of a specific area of the criminal business. The current “thieves-in-law” got more remarkable successes when they reached at the top of the political pyramid and got the right, by applying of some more or less legal schemes, to rob without scruples their own voters, enjoying a total immunity from any laws. In other words, today “thieves-in-law” means they are in power (but not necessarily to be in public office) and have the right to steal legally, the Parliament and the Government is serving as protection for this. “Banca de Economii” and Chisinau Airport serves as good examples for such behaviour. Who are the modern “thieves-in-law”? Well, it is pretty easy. Two guys. Both called Vlad. The answer seems so obvious that everyone feels uncomfortable to pronounce their names. By the way, this is another part from the arsenal of their power. Their names are not quite pronounced anymore. It is more common and people are tented to use their nicknames – Number two or Plohis, in the first case, and “Little God” of Filea, in the second case. The fact that all “thieves-in-law” have nicknames represents evidence of their limitless authority. Their real names, although being known by everyone, are kept in secret. When you pronounce them, this is the same as committing a sacrilege. It is the same as calling God with his real name. Another element of their evil power is their invisibility. The same as God, that cannot be seen, our “thieves-in-law” are not in the spotlight of power. For this reason, many people like Leanca, Timofti, Corman and Lazar are seen as some kind of necessary ingredients, but definitively not determining in the equation the power built entirely in the shadows. Just in front of us, Plahotniuc and Filat appear as people that do not have important state positions and that are not able to speak in acceptable limits, together with other members of Moldovan politics. But during secret negotiations, there is no one able to defy their opinion. They do not see each other publicly, but their decisions count. Their invisibility is rather curious. Their presence cannot be found even when you want to know who will be the owner of the property stolen from the state. Various ephemeral and obscure companies appear, but no one will identify a name that will lead to these two. At the same time, you can feel their breath (in a theatre we would say “pestilential breath”). Everyone have the permanent sensation that these two are basically involved in everything and everything bears their signs. A kind of mysticism in square. Why Europeans are silent? Another element of the modern “thieves-in-law” related to the shocking impotency of the Europeans to get them. It is known that Europeans came to our region with the slogan of fighting corruption. But today, we see them as brothers to those that they are calling “oligarchs”. I read a written article of a very influential European member of the Parliament, Pavel Koval, “The Pact with the oligarchs”. The central idea of the article says that beginning the fight with the oligarchs means an attack against democracy. In the author’s opinion, our “thieves-in-law”, are the warrant of democracy – the fight with them will lead to the installation of an autocratic regime, similar to the Russian one. In fact, we have to recognise that Europeans today are advocating European integration and want to sign the associations agreements with the “thieves-in-law” from Moldova and Ukraine. In my humble opinion, this situation is really shocking. The good faith and ethical Europe surrenders to the interest based pragmatism of the two “Vlad” that know to do what is necessary. Another conclusion that might come to my mind is as well shocking – the run of our “thieves-in-law” from Russia and their desire for European integration can be also explained by their fear no to be punished by some autocratic regimes that usually are punishing severely those that steal. Instead of finding order in Europe, we are risking, by tolerating thieves, to succumb in chaos. Why Moldovans are silent? Moldovans are silent not because they are stupid. I would say that things are quite opposite – Moldovans are tolerating the “thieves-in-law” because they are smart. During the years that passed Moldovans learnt one thing – you cannot trust the state. Why? Because this where the “thieves-in-law” can be found. For this reason, the life of Moldovans is not depending greatly on the actions of the people in power. Moldovans left the country, they have Romanian passports, and if they do business they know very well how to avoid taxes. But this does not mean that Moldovans love “thieves-in-law”. It is the opposite. For this reason, Communists protests will probably will not end in nothing because of the lack of protesting zeal. But during elections, “thieves-in-law” might be cast out. This would be a smart thing and I think Moldovans are capable of that. As a conclusion we can say that the “thieves-in-law” are the Gods of Moldova today. They have no name and are invisible. Additionally, they enjoy immunity and signed a pact with Europe. The luck is on their side and the Devil is loading them with goods. Only one thing is bad – the oligarchs did not sign a pact with the people they rule. Author: Cornel Ciurea jurnal.md/ro/news/ho-ii-in-lege-ale-caror-nume-nu-pot-fi-rostite-editorial-1157933/
