The tip: Make sure your domain registration always has your current contact information. The story: My client wanted to transfer her domain name to the same service provider as her new hosting account. Agreed, thats a great idea. Couldnt figure out why the confirmation emails were not getting through to her, even through I tried re-initiating the transfer several times. Eventually discovered that the domain contact info had the wrong email listed for her. It wasnt even an old email, or a typo - it was a flat-out, incorrect, wrong, invalid, not-now-and-never-has-been-accessible email address. The person who originally registered it for her guessed her email address, and somehow it was never noticed or corrected. Easily fixed, but time wasted and progress delayed.
