The title is misleading, only the first question is about race and how they perform in school. However, the last question, he stated we should have national standards (we should) but the biggest argument is that teachers will teach to the test (setting kids up to do well on the test, but not in other areas). Teachers ALREADY do that, states have standardized testing, districts have standardized testing, etc. WHY NOT MAKE BETTER TESTS?! We shouldnt dumb standards down just so low performers can APPEAR like they are doing better. *cough no child left behind cough* I was one of those kids who went through the motions of high school. I was NEVER challenged and in turn, I didnt fulfill my full potential. Now that Im a semester from graduating college(with a 3.94), Ive seen that when Im challenged, I succeed. If Im bored, Im not motivated to do my work to the best of my ability, I go back to going through the motions. That happened when I took speech, a SUPER easy class, nearly 4 years ago and I screwed myself out of a 4.0 because I got an overall 89%.
