The title track of The Christmas Song EP is the only Christmas song, up until this point, that me and the guys have done out on the road, even as our tour dates got into December. This was the only one we ever bothered to work up and share with our friends. I figured we’d give those fans who paid for a concert ticket a version that they can have and say, Well, here it is. Most people know Nat King Coles version, and he was born in Montgomery, Alabama, so there’s a good strong connection right there. The song was written by Mel Torme and I am a big fan of his. He is one of the strongest overall music writers over the decade. I put him right up there with Hoagy Carmichael. Cowboy described it as 10,000 chords and the truth. It was fun, I know that much. It was an education learning it years ago when we put it in our show. I am kind of nostalgic about songs like that.
