The tragedy is not far from simple. We often understand, empathize with the revolt of the oppressed, the marginalized in spaces like far-away jungles etc. but turn a blind eye or rather become the very oppressors in our own neighborhoods, physical and/or otherwise. We demand engagement with our fists clenched. We want civilized debate when we hold the mic. We choose the vocabulary. We paint the canvas, we hold the brush. We gag the one screaming somewhere in the corner by defending or celebrating the freedom on the dias. Voices outside the conference hall are barbaric. Inside the conference room, while sipping coffee during a break, justice shakes hands with hypocrisy.
