"The truth is that McConnell’s in deep trouble and everyone around him knows it. He’s been summarily dumped by his own party, as John McCain of all people has stepped in to negotiate with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) on the filibuster nuclear option. It’s obvious to most viewing from the outside that Mitch is scared with good reason. Maybe he’s crushing his Republican primary opponent with commanding double-digit numbers, but if he thinks he can spend the summer chasing scandals and holding the debt ceiling hostage and not face consequences from voters back home that are clearly growing tired of his representation, he’s sorely mistaken."
