The twentieth century generated a new perspective on sanctification in Lutheranism. This position says that Lutheran preaching should not exhort and admonish the hearers to live in new obedience. Functionally, it denies the third use of a the law. However, such a view does not reflect what the Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions have to say about this matter.
