The value of NLP modeling lies precisely in the fact that people who demonstrate exquisite skill - like the top tennis players Malcolm Gladwell talks about here - cannot give you an accurate description of what they actually do at the level of unconscious competence. Modeling in NLP is about discovering the consistent patterns in the attention, behaviour, cognitive processes and/or heuristics of some gifted individual ... that *they themselves* do not know about, and that allow them to operate with such a level of mastery that they are perceived to be uniquely gifted in some way.
