The very existence of labels like “free range,” - TopicsExpress

The very existence of labels like “free range,” “cage-free,” and “humane certified” attests to society’s growing concern for the welfare of animals raised for food. But any time consumers of meat, eggs or dairy advocate for “humane” treatment of farm animals, they confront an unavoidable paradox: the movement to treat farm animals better is based on the idea that it is wrong to subject them to unnecessary harm; yet, killing animals we have no need to eat constitutes the ultimate act of unnecessary harm. - See more at: freefromharm.org/animal-products-and-ethics/a-comprehensive-analysis-of-the-humane-farming-myth/#sthash.ThDfRlxy.dpuf _____________________________ Gone..but never forgotten. Wagner Farm and their Glenview Clovers 4H have sent 100+ animals to auction for slaughter since 2010 from this taxpayer funded facility, with ongoing systematic rejection of collaborative efforts with those they deem unsuitable to work with for any reason as part of their camp - notably the non-profit Wagner Farm Rescue Fund who has made numerous overtures to Wagner Farm and the Glenview Park District for collaborative efforts - including offers of above market value payment for release of these animals to sanctuary outcomes - which are being repeatedly rejected. Wagner Farms 4H club, in keeping with making Wagner Farm appear to be bucolic, has been known, unlike many other 4H clubs, to name their animals - yet even though that aspect of disconnect of not naming animals hasnt always been a factor, they still find it appropriate to send these animals to their deaths. **2014 - Wagner Farm and their Glenview Clovers 4H sold 14 lambs (plus one other lamb died at Wagner Farm in June) and 9 pigs to auction for slaughter at the Lake County (IL) Fair in July. Wagner Farm has acknowledged that animals such as these, who they refer to as market animals (bred to be slaughtered and eaten) are slaughtered by being bolt-gunned to the head and they do not view this as inhumane - repeated detailed documentation of slaughter houses deaths that has been publicized globally demonstrates otherwise. What about when they are just stunned and do not immediately die or are meant to immediately die - and additional attempts have to be made to kill them, including other kinds of attempts such as in the following video? Here is further proof that humane slaughter is based on utter deception and manipulation of consumer concerns over animal welfare, designed to make people feel better about eating animals so that they will continue to support violent and exploitative animal-using industries. - Free From Harm Staff Writers: See more at: freefromharm.org/animal-cruelty-investigation/rare-footage-reveals-latest-humane-slaughter-lie-co2-gassing/#sthash.dhYo0Uw7.dpuf An IL 4H state representative has already confirmed that sale to slaughter is not even a requirement of 4H state programming. Sale to slaughter is apparently, based on comments by this representative and Wagner Farm management, just a preferred outcome at Wagner Farm while compassion - even at profit - is not. The tax payer purchased and funded Wagner Farm telling the non-profit Wagner Farm Rescue Fund to just go to the slaughter auction sale and buy their 4H animals if we really want them is being equated by an increasing amount of the public as akin to municipalities who move voter polling sites miles away and then tell the public they can just buy a car to get there, get a ride, or take public transportation and/or walk to the polling site, etc., if they really want to vote. The detailed logistics involved in needing to make responsibly done advance placement and transport arrangement of animals essentially makes buying directly from the auction to be prohibitive, particularly for larger animals. This has been explained in detail to Wagner Farm repeatedly. As their continuing dismissive response is to just go to the slaughter auction - or that the animals can be taken to a meat market as a placement site as weve also been crassly told - this is also being equated by an increasing amount of the public as their calling for hoop jumping in a seeming intent to impede animal rescue and humane placement as this obviously does not support Wagner Farm goals. Once any animals, including those owned privately, become part of a facility in any capacity that is taxpayer purchased and funded, such as Wagner Farm is, they immediately become the business of the public.
