The victims and survivors of the 2009 Fort Hood shooting are one step closer to receiving the Purple Heart, thanks to an amendment in the FY2015 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would require the DoD to finally award the medal to those killed and injured. Though the President claims the shooting was workplace violence, it was a blatant and heinous terrorist attack, and those who were affected should receive the necessary awards, benefits and treatment. They should have received it years ago. Id like to thank my fellow Texas colleague, Congressman Mike Conaway, who offered the amendment, as he is a member of the committee that has jurisdiction over the NDAA.
