The video and news reports coming out of #Ferguson, Missouri are deeply troubling. The community deserves more transparency from the local police on exactly what happened the day Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, was shot and killed by an officer. Moreover, all Americans have the right to peacefully protest, and all journalists in America have the right to cover stories without fear of retaliation from the police. Youd be forgiven for assuming the footage coming out of Ferguson is from a war zone, and I dont know how anyone can think what weve seen is a proportionate response to the crowds. State and federal authorities need to ensure that the First Amendment is adhered to in Ferguson and to guarantee that a proper and thorough investigation into the Brown shooting is conducted.
