The view over Edinburgh from Calton Hill hasnt changed all that - TopicsExpress

The view over Edinburgh from Calton Hill hasnt changed all that much since 1879 - yes, a few buildings have been added including The Balmoral Hotel in 1902 (and that brilliant old clock I love so much). However, the rest have been here for quite a bit longer. Youll see the spire of the Hub (the Highland Tolbooth St Johns Church - sticks up like a sore thumb at the top of the Mile and its the most magnificent church thats never been consecrated and used as such!). Youll also see the Bank of Scotland HQ on the Mound (also present for 200 years+) with th big dome and lights, to the left f the shot and of course, the Scott Monument, present for over 150 years on Princes Street with Sir Walter Scott sat there, gazing into next week. ...with all that going on, I (almost) forgot the centrepiece. Our old castle, sat their since the Bronze Age and developed, burnt, rebuilt and repeat until what you see now eventually stood, all the while sitting on the huge lump of volcanic rock, known as Castle Rock, itself here for over 350 MILLION years. So, not a new view then eh? Classic all the same. The only addition I shot last night was the Ferris wheel...almost out of shot and not a permanent feature...thankfully; dont mind it for a bit but too long and I think itd become an irritant on this old view... Check out my Old Edinburgh Page for more historical ramblings and photos: facebook/oldedinburgh Cheers folks Colin
