The weekend beckons...and its not even Hallo-weeen! After getting the minimum number of sleep hours to sustain life, Ill be out this afternoon helping out in the North Shore congressional district where son Jeff has been working with Brad Schneiders campaign to keep a seat that the GOP desperately wants BACK....Rumsfeld, Porter and Sen. Kirk all held it. Its a dogfight and im proud of Jeffs efforts in the process, using that Depauw political science degree! As long as Im way north, might as well stay there for friend Louie Zagoras rockin the Alley with ROLLOVER in Highwood. If you are farther west, veteran Chi-town bluesman J.b. Ritchie is a good bet at Macs on Slade, downtown at Rosas, my buddy Frank Sennish recommends the blues of Albert Castiglia. Saturday morning finds me back on The Weekend Drive for the first time in two weeks, 6-10a. That evening, Ill bring longtime fave Chris Smither onstage at Elgin Community College, affectionately known as ECC. Then what? Blue collar bluesman Carl Davis is at Macs....thanks for the CD, man. Funky...and theres that love song to java, we both use that to stay awake on our respective late night gigs. Sunday afternoon, Im with Tom Ryan and the Byrds Ensemble at Old Town School of Folk Music on Lincoln at Maurer Hall on North Lincoln at 4p. $5 cover and a fine beer selection so come out and hoot at us! Were closing the show with a ten song set after a nice program of John Prine, Rolling Stones and more contemporary country...sweet. Theres plenty of places to hang in the hood afterward. At midnight Sunday, we wind it up and start it all over again....neverending but it keeps you runnin, yknow?
