The whole the identity of Jack the Ripper has been found! that regularly surfaces in the news (to replace the Loch Ness monster I guess, now that people have finally started to realize that it cant be real) kinda annoy me. Dont get me wrong, Im fascinated by the Rippers story as much as everyone else (even a little bit more than anyone else), and I love a good movie/comic book about it (From Hell remains the best in the field, both the movie and the comic book... yes, I know, they are very different from each other, but I love both for very different reasons). But the thing is that movies, books, they are fictions. Fictions based on true events, but still fictions. And more than fictions, they are narrative, there can be a reveal at the end, and it will be true (in the context of that fiction). Reality doesnt work this way. I want to know who the Ripper was as much as the next person, but we wont. We will never know. One can research about for decades, all they will do is create a narrative about him, and there is no one at the end that will reveal the truth, even if the researcher is sure of his theory, nobody can prove or disprove it, and nobody will.
