The wicked heart The heart is such a fickled thing; its wants too often change, And in this verse, I’ll try to bring our subject within range, I’ll be speaking directly to the heart; I’ll bring the matter home; This wicked member is not fixed, it truly likes to roam. Dear heart if I may say a word or two I know your busy now; give to me a moment, please, as I must wipe my brow, there, I’ve chased you all around the town, you never seem to stop; you see a thing you seem to like, and then from there you hop, why can’t you settle down and be happy with your lot, your tangled being is always wanting what other people got. One day you say if I only had this thing or maybe that I’d be so happy and content; I’d keep it in my hat. You are a wicked thing because your wants won’t end There seem to be another thing ahead around the bend, You love a girl. And tell her, she’s all you ever need; Then you see another girl, oh where will this all lead? That car you got because you said I love its sleeky line; Then you see the neighbor’s truck and say it must be mine, You had to have that T.V. set, fifty inches on the wall The sixty incher just came out, and you’re running to the mall. Your friends will say a word to you, that you don’t really like; So you get all offended, and tell them to take a hike, You pout and moan and carry on, and pine away the hour; Your like the milk left on porch, you sit and brood and sour. Oh heart of man, what will it take to make you sit and ponder; What spirit have you hiding there, that causes you to wander, You will not change, you wicked heart, you’ll always be the same; Let God come in you crippled heart; you know he heals the lame. The master of the universe is standing at your door; He knocks and knocks, oh bid him, in he’ll give you so much more, He wants to come and live with you and help you live today, And give you life, and meaning too, all along the way.
