The Miami-based National Hurricane Centre is indicating that the approaching Tropical Wave has a medium or thirty percent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours. Reconnaissance monitoring indicates that there has been little change in organization of the Tropical Wave this afternoon. Even if it does not turn into a named storm, the Tropical Wave will produce heavy rains and gusty winds over portions of Belize, Honduras and Guatemala and the Yucatan Peninsula. According to the Belize Weather Bureau, winds are currently easterly to north-easterly at 10 to 20 knots with higher gusts near showers and thunderstorms. The sea state is moderate, becoming rough at times. A small craft caution for rough seas has been issued by the Belize Weather Bureau. I will keep monitoring this Tropical Wave and post any changes as they occur.
