The world is once again focused on Iraq – with an escalation of U.S. led military activity, the mistreatment of Christians and other minorities by the group known as ‘ISIS’ or ‘IS’ and the killing of U.S. journalist James Foley. In such a febrile political climate, there is a need for more light and understanding – to separate the myth from reality about the nature of the Khilafah on the Prophetic model. In the coming days and weeks – through a series of articles, talks and conferences – Hizb ut-Tahrir in Britain plans to present our vision for a real Khilafah for the Muslim world on the method of Prophethood. It is possible to be against what ISIS is doing while also being vocal advocates in favour of an Islamic Khilafah Rashidah! It is essential that Muslims know how the Khilafah Rashidah – on the method of Prophethood – would solve peoples’ problems – bringing justice, security and protection while looking after Muslims of all schools of thoughts and sects, as well as non-Muslim citizens. Sectarianism and conflicts between minorities are the hallmarks of decades of colonial policy, not of Islam. Muslims should know what solutions such a Khilafah could offer the world as an alternative to the disaster Capitalism that dominates and oppresses the world. It is vital that Muslims are not fooled – either by a false Khilafah label or by the demonization of the concept of Khilafah by politicians and media – and are not blinded to the planned break-up of Iraq. We all need to understand what is really going on in Iraq and Syria. It is also vital that Muslims are aware of how the government will use this crisis to strengthen the Prevent programme, obstruct expressions of Islam in ordinary life, encourage spying on Muslims – and deflect from the ‘blowback’ of the disastrous Iraq invasion. It is our view that Imams, Khateebs and Dawah carriers have a duty to address these Islamic issues, not only Hizb ut-Tahrir. How else can the Muslim community know right from wrong in the matters of fundamental importance in this day and age?! We urge all Muslims to come to our conferences to understand the true vision for the Khilafah Rashidah, so that their hearts can yearn for its return.
