#TheSkinDeepStruggle - UNTIL you walk a mile in my SKIN, youll never know what its like to be me! UNTIL youve experienced damaging-discrimination, whether subtle or blatant, solely based on SKIN that you didnt choose… youll never know the frustration that often accompanies being me! UNTIL your wife and sisters have to go to a special store to buy their hair products because they dont carry haircare supplies for people with her SKIN in regular stores, youll never know the inconvenience that often comes with being me! UNTIL, as a parent, you try to teach your children that all people are equal and should be treated as such, yet simultaneously you fight fear because they are being raised in a society that acts otherwise and may even harm them because of their SKIN, youll never know how it feels to be me! UNTIL a plethora of human beings with your SKIN are kidnapped, sold, enslaved, apprehended with irrational force, beaten and slaughtered while their abusers and killers go free….repeatedly... you wont know the heinous injustice that happens to people with my SKIN! So, please stop dismissing the FACT that cancers like racism and white privilege exist because you have not been directly affected by them! Your eyes may not have recognized them but this doesnt mean that theyre not alive and well! For example: I cant tell you how often I have passed by buildings on my daily commute that Ive never noticed, until someone pointed them out to me. However, those who work in the very same buildings cant ignore their presence because these structures are a part of their everyday life. What am I saying? Because of your SKIN you may never have noticed or had to deal with racism. It may in fact be simply a part of the peripheral landscape of your daily commute which goes unnoticed, kind of like the buildings I described in the scenario above. However, there are those of us who it is very real to. Those of us who have no choice but to notice it, because we simply cant drive past this issue that is our reality! NO, Im not just a confused black man who needs to grow up and just get over it! My peoples lives matter way too much. YES, Ive forgiven those who have harmed me personally and people with my SKIN for hundreds of years. I also will continue to do so because my lord commands it, and I encourage others to do the same. NO, not every white person, white cop, white judge and etc is a racist and Im very thankful for those who get it and are actively a part of the solution. YES, black people are not the only people who are discriminated against and EVERY life does matter and deserves justice! NO, racism is not an excuse for people with my SKIN to cause bedlam or hate others who dont look like them. Although racial prejudice is a colossal pill to swallow, it does not entitle us to act with hatred or violent retaliation! YES, the struggle is SKIN deep and is a reflection of the shallow hearts of mankind, in need of the deep regenerative work of God. NO, reliance on God is not a cop-out answer. We clearly need power GREATER than our own to heal the wounds of past hurt and help us handle the tragic condition of mankind. Ultimately, SKIN deep devils like racism will not be completely eradicated until His return. Even so, come Lord Jesus! In Love, In Hope G.
