#The_Reality_of_Demons The New Testament contains numerous clear examples of how unclean demonic spirits can take up residence in the life of a person and influence his or her behavior for the worse. Even so, we’re living in a day in which fewer and fewer people believe that demonic spirits exist. And many well-meaning Christians have been taught that demons can’t have any influence on a Christian. I was certainly taught that. But I learned the hard way that it’s not true. I’ve learned that it’s possible to be free; and that getting free makes a huge difference in my life. It certainly made a radical difference for that man of the tombs in Gadera who had an life-changing encountere with Jesus: Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one who had been demon-possessed and had the legion, sitting and clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid. And those who saw it told them how it happened to him who had been demon-possessed, and about the swine. (vss. 15-16) Notice that the Bible describes this man as having been “demon possessed.” I realize that’s a very controversial phrase in many Christian circles. It’s a term that means different things to different people. Nevertheless, it appears several times in the Gospels. The word demon appears 82 times in the New King James version of the Bible. Sixty-one of these occurrences are in the Gospels. Why such frequency? I think we see it so much in the Gospels because no one ever had authority over demons until Jesus came. He had authority and when he entered into His ministry He immediately started confronting demonic strongholds and the things that held people in bondage. Jesus came so that we can be free! #Shalom
