Then Satan stood up against Israel and moved David to number Israel. — 1 Chronicles 21:1 (NASB) - The Chronicler tells us what David was influenced by Satan in taking a census. But when he realised his sin, David took responsibility and repented. Similarly, we believe that Satan is still at work today, but his activity doesnt absolve us from responsibility. When we sin, we choose to follow the path of wickedness. David’s confession, recognizing his own culpability despite Satan’s role, can therefore serve as an example to us that we not blame our own sinful actions on forces or people other than ourselves.
