Theology Thursday - Debbie Vacek I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his masters business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. John 15:15 My mom has never been the type to have a pity party. Shes always been extremely resilient and even fought doggedly to overcome the loss of speech resulting from her stroke several years ago. But just last week she admitted to me that she is very lonely. Since Daddys death, she hates returning to an empty home. C. S. Lewis noted, God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks to us in our conscience, but shouts in our pain; it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world. Maybe God allows loneliness into our lives as an invitation to pursue Him as our closest friend. Author Tim Hansel wrote: Loneliness is not a time of abandonment...it just feels that way. It is actually a time of encounter at new levels with the only One who can fill that empty place in our hearts. On my last visit to see my mom, I saw her Bible and devotional book open near her kitchen table. I hadnt seen that since Dads death. She is renewing her friendship with the Best Friend anyone could have...and her tone has changed from sadness to joy. Praise be to God!
