Theology of Unbelief John 9 The whole chapter deals with a man - TopicsExpress

Theology of Unbelief John 9 The whole chapter deals with a man receiving a miracle of sight. He was born blind and the only time he was able to see is when Jesus Christ gave him sight. The dialogue of the jews, the blind man and his parents is stage in which belief and unbelief is happening. For the blind man, he knows he was blind and now was able to see. For the Jews, a discussion of sin, miracles and the practice of their religious views was being put on the spot, Can a sinner give a miracle. If there is a miracle, he is man of God. The problem of the Jews in spite of the evidence, they were still looking for another explanation apart from the obvious. Unbelief makes you blind. For the blind man, faith is not completely understanding the miracle but embracing the miracle. Recognition of small miracles are more than enough to stand strong in the court of unbelief. For the Jews, it was doubting the person of Jesus Christ rather than doubting the miracle. Jesus Christ was outside the realm of the Jews in understanding and claiming knowledge of God. The Jews strength of knowing the law of Moses is not a guarantee of believing the giver of the law. Why doubt, when the evidence and the eyewitness is truthful? Unbelief has a hierarchy of religious pride, rigid understanding of the law and lack of passion and love for God. The poor can easily believe not because they have nothing but because simple acceptance of the truth.
