There are a million anti-aging products on the market. Well, step aside. I have found the answer. Yesterday I got something in the mail from a boy I loved in the 70s. It was a little book I had written for him, whimsical, sweet, and rather creative, if I do say so myself. I had forgotten all about it. I sat at the kitchen table and read through it, and so many rich, full-color, dolby sound memories came back to me. I was back in time as the young woman I was then, and he was back there with me as the young musician he was. We were both ever so much slimmer. I had long black hair and he had longish blond hair. It was so utterly absorbing, being with those memories, really feeling as though I were in my twenties again, so much so that when I looked up and saw my kitchen, I kind of thought, Where did YOU come from? My heart was so full. And I was dying to call him, but you know how that goes...you never know how youre going to find someone at the other end of the phone. And so I sent him an email and I sat for a while longer with my memories and then I went down and watched Parenthood, which many of you know always makes me cry, but this time I cried for more than that. I cried and cried and cried, but they were the sweetest tears. Then I came upstairs and had one (1) piece of Sees candy even though I wanted 1,000 pieces and then I went to bed and before I went to sleep I looked down at the still forms of my dogs asleep beside me and I looked outside at the night sky so full of stars even if I couldnt seem them and I thought, Boy am I lucky, to have known the people I have known in my life, and to have loved many of them in a way that will never, ever stop. This answers that Beatles question: Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when Im sixty-four? with a resounding YES. As for my old boyfriends request that I send that book right back to him? In a while, I will. In a while.
