There are a million factors that play into the attendance of every show, timing, work schedules, school schedules, politics, cliques, personal taste, elitism, promotion, locations, club, weather, talent or lack there of, day of the week, drama, gossip, you name it. It also isnt all about attendance sometimes only a small number of people get it and thats fine. That said punk/ hardcore/ metal/ rock is becoming a harder genre to book and guarantee a crowd, this wasnt always so, but people sleep on some good shows. There are others who arent gonna support certain bands no matter what because they feel that no matter what they are onto something the rest of us arent aware of (which usually is never the case). Some bands seem content to only play certain areas of town to button up shirt crowds, although it is never and shouldnt be a bout dress code, I admit I feel awkward in these crowds to be honest. All in all, attendance is an issue, people sometimes sleep on really good shows because they are afraid to take a chance. I work every genre and this problem is becoming more of a rock based band problem. You dont have to be a fan boy, but if you feel like getting off the internet and taking a chance, there are good shows to be found (wasnt always the case), cliques and politics destroy progression, food for thought. No one is doing anything really but playing the same cords and screaming, flex your head and take a chance.
