There are a number of posts Im seeing with sarcastic comments about profile pictures about Gaza. Perhaps the understanding of peoples psychology is a bit simplistic. I dont think people are really foolish enough to believe that posting a picture saying Free Gaza will free Gaza tomorrow, nor does their show of solidarity with Gaza mean they dont care about others suffering around the world. Perhaps we can look deeper. One thing is for sure: due to a massive propeganda campaign, people around the world are deeply misinformed about the conflict in Palestine. For example, I myself live in a country whose media is more biased towards Israel than Israel is towards Israel (see US media). A country where if any celebrity even dares write #freepalestine on their personal social media, they are forced to issue an immediate apology . Apology, folks. Apology for speaking out against murder. But you see, the power of public opinion is that great. And they know it. And thats why Israel is literally paying people to post propeganda on social media (see Huffington Post). So, as I see it, the least I can do--with all my powerlessness--is raise awareness for a cause that in actively being hidden.
