“There are fears that the Bumiputera Agenda may end up benefiting a select group of Malays, namely, those close to Umno, while other Bumiputeras will benefit only marginally. This would also worsen rent-seeking and patronage, and engender even more cronyism and corruption,” the ST wrote. It added that extending and widening pro-Bumiputera affirmative action now only validates the view that the past four decades of such efforts have been a failure, and negate much of the actual progress achieved under its auspices.
