There are lots of thoughts and wishes about Veteran here on - TopicsExpress

There are lots of thoughts and wishes about Veteran here on Facebook today. But not all Veterans remember they may qualify for VA benefits. I had forgotten and went without medical insurance for 12 years then one day I saw a friend at breakfast and he told me he had just had heart surgery. He told me that the surgery had been done at the Palo Alto VA hospital and it cost him the outrageous sum of less than $500. I said, “Huh? How do I qualify?” He told me that 24 months of active duty is all that it took. I went online and ordered a copy of my DD214. A week later I went online to register on the VA website. Three days later I got a call from a VA representative asking me to fax my DD214. Next day he called me back, told me that he had received the DD214 and everything looked good. Then he blew my socks off. He asked, “Want me to make an appointment for you?” The time for this whole process was less than three weeks. Let me repeat. The time from registering on the VA site to seeing a Doc was less than three weeks. And then they put me in the hospital for three days. And that is another long story. If you know a Veteran that is not taking advantage of their VA benefits, chastise them, lead them to a computer and get them started. Even when I eventually find a job with medical insurance I plan to use the VA as my provider.
