There are many books and movies we can relate to as JWs. Im reading Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. We saw the movie a few months back, and I had the basic premise within 10 minutes of the opening credits, and it hooked me. Wonderfully made. And, of course, the book is even deeper. What is resonating with me is the chapter where the Korean Fabricant clone, designed totally for service of the Purebloods, is awakened and begins her ascension by another fabricant who awakened and could not keep it to herself. She is then escaped and taken to the University outside of her bubble. Her awe, simply with the color green, or that the river, a water highway, was so muddy when water at Papa Songs was crystal clear, and the unkempt and grimy University, amaze her. In her former life, a product of and property of Papa Sang, her corporcratic leader, everything was synthetic, and clean, and perfect. She was deeply indoctrinated to the catechism and matins of her dome. This is reminding me so much of the dichotomy between the pure, not-of-this-world JW ideal, and the reality of living in this world -- even the wonder at the amazing things we are introduced to once we open our minds and our eyes. Im finding it a most fascinating read at a lot of levels. Off to my lamp and my book.
