There are many factors operating in the psychology of the majority - TopicsExpress

There are many factors operating in the psychology of the majority of humanity around this potential for indefinite life extension / physical immortality. Such as denial of death, leaned helplessness, the accepted social norm, fear of survival for stepping out of social conformity etc etc I like this comment from Ed Franco - ‘In a sense, everything we learn is learned on two levels, first through our surface- mind and then, more significantly, through our heart-mind. The surface-mind is the stalwart keeper of the gate – an idiot savant of sorts, entrusted with guarding the castle that is our body, mind and sprirt. Its job is is to keep what’s inside in and what’s outside out, and it does it very well. The single biggest barrier to assimilating any new thought is getting past this big lug, it not being particularly conscious or wise but, to its credit, remarkably consistent. The heart-mind, on the other hand, more closely resembles Einstein by comparison. Continuing with this analogy, inside the castle, the thought ‘Death is Inevitable’ (which I’ll call DI) is resting comfortably. Outside the gate is a visitor, new in town, and not bad looking, named Physical Immortality (which I’ll call PI ). PI approaches the castle and gently but firmly tells the surface-mind ‘I’m here to visit the heart-mind. ‘No (expletive) way’ the surface-mind replies with its characteristic finesse. But PI is confident and takes rejection in its stride, it knows not to judge by appearances. And so PI calmly responds ‘I would appreciate the opportunity to look inside the castle. I dont need to stay.’ Now, the surface-mind is suspicious, but even within its limited capacity is nonetheless impressed, with the tranquility, peacefulness and radiant glow of PI. After hesitating awhile , the surface-mind reluctantly acquiesces, saying ‘Okay, but make it quick.’ Once PI has entered the castle, DI immediately senses something and feels threatened. You as the owner of the castle, feels a bit ill at the prospect of having bought these two together. Without wasting any time, PI heads straight for the heart mind to plead its case. The heart-mind listens, confused but receptive. DI now furious and fast on the heels of PI, quickly intervenes and starts to rant ‘I have ruled for centuries, I have been taught, passed down and feared from generation to generation. How can you entertain a visit from an outsider the likes of this? Everyone sane, rational and wise believes in me. I command you to dismiss this intruder at once!’ The heart-mind ponders, hesitates, and then sadly, agrees. It tells PI to leave, that there is no room for it in its castle. ‘Okay, as you wish,’ replies PI. “But do me one favour. Think about what I have said to you. And THEN forget me if you can.’ Ed Franco , therapist – excerpt from his book ‘LIFE UNLIMITED’ https://youtube/watch?v=FlTpJMI1B9w
