There are many stories in the naked city. Take this Chevy - TopicsExpress

There are many stories in the naked city. Take this Chevy spotted outside a drug store in Raleigh for example. This car was originally ordered by the State of North Carolina to be a Highway Patrol vehicle. Highway Patrol cars at the time were painted gray over black. You may notice that the car spotted outside the pharmacy is black over gray. In case youre already confused, the real North Carolina Highway Patrol car is the one with the blue lights on top. Perhaps on account of the supervisor holding the order form upside down, or perhaps for some other reason, General Motors got the Patrols order bass ackwards. When GM discovered the error North Carolina refused to accept, much less pay for, the non-conforming merchandise. Never mind that by the time the cars had a variation of the Great Seal of North Carolina slapped on the door and were festooned with blue lights and sirens its unlikely anyone would have mistaken them for anything other than cop cars. The state stood on its legal, contractual rights. General Motors loss was the publics gain. Anyone with a yen for a brand new, never used, ugly performance sedan chock full of police equipment had a field day. Some of these cars were immediately repainted by their new civilian owners. Others have undoubtedly been repainted in the years since. A dwindling few, however, can occasionally still be spotted wearing their original, criss-crossed color scheme. Like I said, there are many stories in the naked city. This has been one of them.
