There are several heart wrenching things youre never warned about as a parent. 1)Hospital visits: some that make for weird fun stories --mom, the wind blew it in my ear and some that make you drop to your knees and pray and believe with an intensity that it will change your whole world--cancer, a car accident. 2) When your child is diagnosed with things youve never heard of and you become a research expert and realize you cant change it, but you will spend your whole life trying to figure it out and help your child adjust and accept. 3) That depression and bipolar and other personality disorders are real in children and you have to be aware, especially if there is a family history. Suicide is real and it will happen to kids you know. 4) Kids make good choices and they make bad choices, so do you. They will disappoint you and you will disappoint them. Be the parent, remember to love them unconditionally. 5) Your babies will have their hearts broken. There is nothing you can do to save them from this fate. Itll be like a train wreck you see approaching and cant stop, afterwards you will hold them and cry for them. Explain each heartbreak is a stepping stone on the path to the right person. 6) The first day of kindergarten. The last day of high school. The first day of college. The first apartment. The first grandbaby. In other words, kids make you aware of time passing, of life being lived, of the love all around you, of the legacy that you will leave behind. Heart wrenching, loving experiences, and once they happen there is nothing in this world youll trade them for.
