There are several reasons that the Blues jam at Southsiders Public House in Waxhaw works consistently. First a conducive room and the support of the great owners Mark Kennedy and Pame Kennedy. Michael Wolf & D.B.A. are determined to have this structured as a jam. We play three to four songs, max, and the jam starts. I thank profusely the musicians who keep sharing their talents like Richard Johnson, Frank Hoffmann, Gerry Hagstedt, Mike Taylor, Darren Wachman, Richard M. Kausch, Ray McClelland Jr. Eric Knight, among many others. It moved me greatly when I realized that Willie Shane Johnston and the Red Dirt Revelators drove all the way from Hickory to share their remarkable talents. There ultimately is a selfless surrender to the music that we all know and love, the Blues and its closely related children from Soul, to New Orleans, to Hendrix, to classics by Bluesmen who should be better known like Otis Rush. When we played Otis Double Trouble tonight the room stood still. As Otis does not play live anymore, I felt honored by the audiences response. America has the Blues these days and we are promoting a Blues stimulus package. The audience makes it work for us with folks like Charlene Hoover, MaryAnn Braun, Allison Powers, Beverly Gibby, consistently coming out and supporting our efforts. An attentive audience is everything to a musician. Hendrix said That the Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel. I agree, but the chemistry is consistently right at Southsiders on Wed. nights for the Blues in its myriad of forms. We have a short tribute to Duane Allman planned next week on October 30th, October 29th being the anniversary of Duanes passing. Still my biggest slide guitar influence. As it is so close to Halloween, look for me as a slightly hippie Werewolf. Thanks to you all, we are carrying this thru November.
