There are some people who are not like my grandchildren who can - TopicsExpress

There are some people who are not like my grandchildren who can handle everything so easily on the Internet, and these people need a little extra time. ... The example they gave us is a 63-year-old woman came into the store and said, I almost got it. Every time I just about got there, it would cut me off. We have a lot of people just like this through no fault of the Internet, but [because] people are not educated on how to use the Internet ... I find this statement interesting in several ways. The gentleman from Nevada blames the uneducated people using a tool, not the tool itself through no fault of its own (though it has been admitted that site has bugs and flaws that are still being sorted out) for their own misfortunes ... it would be an interesting philosophy to apply to say, guns ... Some may say that it is an apples and oranges comparison, that the damage a gun may be the tool of inflicting upon the world can extend beyond oneself ... but this contradicts the essence of our present understanding of the Supremacy Clause, the Commence Clause, and the Necessary and Proper Clause, all invoked by the Affordable Care Act precisely because of the effect our decisions and (non)participation would have upon others. But what I also must ask is that if uneducated people are essentially at fault or for not knowing how to navigate the Internet, should not all the decisions that may be influenced by mishandling it as a tool ... say, such as a major source of learning about Senate elections and the effects that has upon interstate relations and commerce. Would the Majority Leader be so charitable if he were to blame an election result on peoples uneducated Internet habits on, say, an election, or poll numbers about a health law ...? What constitutes it? Visiting the wrong sites? Not understanding the content of the right sites? How far does being uneducated reach before it changes from contempt masked as backhanded sympathy to outright animosity? Mr Reid is virtually biting that hands that feed him here, in the context of what this movement is about, and he is doing it in plain sight. The people who keep sending him and his colleagues to the Senate floor are some of the same people who cant navigate healthcare.org. We talk about a world that is smaller and more informed because of the Internet. Even in his own statement, Mr Reid seems unable to blame the Internet itself. But if tools of information like the Internet can be failed by its masters, the people, where does that leave the tools of government, like the Senate- which relies on both information and those same failed masters? foxnews/politics/2014/03/26/reid-on-need-for-obamacare-extension-people-not-educated-about-internet/
