There are those days like yesterday that I dont even remember what I did, then there is the day, December 10th, 2013 that I remember vividly! That was the day that our world would change forever and for the better. I was doing shop work that Tuesday morning to get caught up on some equipment that I had brought into repair. Knowing that in just a few weeks (December 29th, the due date) our little man would arrive. At 11:57 Kristi called me to tell me she thought her water had broken. At that moment I dropped my tools and took off. Picking her up from work and being checked into the hospital in less than an hour at 12:50. By 1:30, they confirmed just what we had expected that her water had broken and we wouldnt be leaving the hospital without a baby. At 2:10 they hooked up the IVs to get ready to start the pitocin but wanted to wait to see if contractions would start on their own. Finally at 4:00, they started the pitocin. Kristi never appeared to be in much pain even though around 4:30 the monitor was showing intense contractions. Around 5:00 we called the nurse in to tell her we wanted to go ahead with getting an epidural so we didnt miss our Window of Opportunity that they kept referring to. This was Kristis main request throughout out delivery process. So when the nurse did her check up she looked at me and said I think its too late you are about ready! Kristi and I both looked at each other and were like youre joking right?! After all, our nurse kept reassuring us while Kristi was having contractions she wouldnt miss the getting the epidural and didnt think she was anywhere ready to have the baby since she was showing very little signs of pain at this point. When Dr. Campbell came in at 5:15 to do a further examination and realizes we may have time to rush an epidural. So we jumped on it. It took the Anesthesiologist 20 minutes to get up there. He explained how an epidural works and began at 5:35. He finishes up getting the epidural in her around 6:00. Of course we were taking a chance on rushing the epidural and it never took because they never were able to pump any medicine through it when Dr. Campbell said its time to have a baby at 6:05 and the process began. Then at 6:10 little Mason arrived into this world! (However, we did pay for the epidural that never worked of course). At that moment, we became parents for the very first time. There are no words to express the joy and love that our little Mason has brought to us over the last year. Not always the easiest task at hand but definitely one of the most rewarding things there are. Until you have children there is no way to understand the love that you have for your child. On this day one year ago, Mason Edward Boyce, 6lbs 4oz. 20 in. long arrived into our lives. I would like to wish my little buddy a Very Happy 1st Birthday!! I Love You!! May God Bless You Forever!
