There are those who feel that if Religion were taught in schools - TopicsExpress

There are those who feel that if Religion were taught in schools we wouldnt have the social issues we do but I disagree. Ones faith is their own and we live under the mandate of freedom of religion in the United States. Teaching only one faith to all school children is an insult to that promise. Morals and ethics are NOT exclusive to any one faith but are the root of what most feel is missing in our national community, this is what is absent in education. You dont need to be Budhist to recognize the beauty in all things or that being kind to each other is a better way. Most of us already know that on some level regardless of what deity we observe. I value highly the ability to pray as I choose and teach my children the virtues of the faith I love. However, I dont believe religion of any kind should be taught in a public school. Separating ones personal feelings regarding the soul and our purpose here on earth from the basics of what is right for our society as a whole should be our goal. It shouldnt be religions responsibility to guide our social structure. It should be for us, collectively to find the balance between what we all believe and implement it into how we deal with each other. Education for our children should include ethics as well as how to use them. Perhaps this is just my own religious view but living in harmony with each other seems to be in the best interest of us all. How about we teach tolerance and understanding for what is different, celebrate what is unique and encourage our kids to make decisions for the good of our nation without a specific faith in mind, but the community .
