There are three websites that dominate the web searches for home buyers: Zillow, Trulia, and Realtor. Now that Zillow has purchased Trulia, the market is smaller. I see their goal to eliminate the real estate sales professional. However, this will cause a huge backlash. The open environment of sharing information, (local MLS providing listing information to third parties) may need to be addressed. What youll see is companies not participating with a MLS. So the consumer will be driven to each companies individual website. And those websites will only show that specific companies listings. And perhaps a new MLS would be created that would have new rules on data sharing. The ultimate irony here is that the real estate industry did this to themselves. Listing information is sold to the third parties and then those third parties require listing agents to pay to have their information displayed on their own listings. Every wonder why some listings have elaborate photos of the listing agent with their contact info while others have a generic email address of phone number? Some agents pay huge fees to have their information shared.
