There are times that we meet someone who profoundly touch you. - TopicsExpress

There are times that we meet someone who profoundly touch you. Somebody that inspires you. Today, I met such a man. As I stepped in the waiting room to call my next patient, there sat, I thought, a lowly man. A man with a BKE, below the knee amputation. A man in a wheel chair. I called out softly questioning, Mr. “Smith”? He lifted his head with a surprisingly bright smile. He confidently began to wheel his chair forward. I leaned toward to help at which he announced “No. No problem, I’ve got this”. I quickly realized he was capable beyond his circumstance. In talking with him, throughout the exam, I learned he lost his lower limb due to diabetic complications. That was 5 years ago. He is now 53. Also, I learn, he has been on dialysis for the last 3 years. For those of you whom do not know, this means he goes to a dialysis center each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Our answer, when our kidneys can no longer, to artificially flush & balance our bodies. Lastly, and most astonishing, he goes to dialysis prior to his shift at wal-mart! He is and has worked there for the last 20 years! He tells me, people often ask why he doesn’t collect disability. He says, “I know I could collect the same money but, why would I want to just “be” all day and not live?” In no way, do I mean to diminish those that have had bombshell circumstances plaque their lives. Just kudos to this man! Truly, inspiring
