There are times you watch something that just speaks to you. Ive just come back from the film Mr Turner - my favourite painter, for me he is up there in paint with Keats and Wordsworth are with words. I will never forget seeing the exhibition the celebrated the bicentennial of his birth at the Tate in the winter of 1973/4 and standing for hours totally awestruck. The locations that were found and the light just left me speechless, and what a performance from Timothy Spall. So enjoyed watching it with Aubrey, who also loves Turner. There were very few people in the audience and no-one near us so we could share ideas during the film. Pity it ended so late, I could have talked about it for hours - but with a new job I had to think of going to bed. Somehow dont think Ill get too much sleep tonight as my mind is not going to switch off too easily. As Keats wrote in Endymion: A thing of beauty is a joy for ever: Its loveliness increases; it will never Pass into nothingness; but still will keep A bower quiet for us, and a sleep Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing. Therefore, on every morrow, are we wreathing A flowery band to bind us to the earth, Spite of despondence, of the inhuman dearth Of noble natures, of the gloomy days, Of all the unhealthy and oer-darkened ways Made for our searching: yes, in spite of all, Some shape of beauty moves away the pall From our dark spirits. Such the sun, the moon, Trees old, and young ... To share a few glorious Turners
