There has been a middle-eastern man coming to eli waters for the last few weeks. I hadnt seen him before but now he is quite a regular. Today he came up to me to return a trolley and as I usually do, I acknowledged him with a smile and said thanks mate. He just stood there looking at me with a semi-confused look so I asked him if he needed help with anything and he replied with, I have been in Australia for 2 months now and you are the first person to call me friend in any form, thankyou. At first I was pretty happy I could do something to lift his spirits but now thinking about it I am pretty annoyed. If were always hearing about aussies being such a laid back, friendly and fun group of people... why the hell has it taken 2 months for anybody to speak to this man in a friendly manner? Pretty sad really, to think that so many people cant take a second out of their life to just say gday to someone, doesnt have to be a long chat at all. A simple hows it going mate? Is not to hard and can go further than you think. Lift your game Australia!!
