There has been quite a bit of discussion on how to shoot the moon - TopicsExpress

There has been quite a bit of discussion on how to shoot the moon the last few nights. Lot of good photos have been posted. Some of the people prefer smaller apertures and slower shutter speeds. I have a question for some of the more technically gifted folks here that understand depth of field a bit more than I do. At what point, does depth of field not apply to a subject, such as the moon? It is thousands of miles away, so does it make any difference at all in the detail if it is shot at F/2.8 or F/22, as long as the ISO and shutter speed match for a correct exposure? I understand the longer the lens or scope and the greater magnification may make a difference, but if you are shooting a decent 500mm lens, how much difference is it really going to make to shoot at a smaller aperture?
