So went to a local rod and reel shop to buy my sons first offshore rod/reel, and had a professional rod wrapper guy that also rebuilds and repairs reels tell me that I need to steel clear of any of the new penn reels cause they are crap and coming from china now and he repairs them all the time...he claims they aint old school penns and are cheaply made and dont last all that long and rust out or get jammed and said my best investment for longevity and dependability and one he never sees in his shop is a daiwa sealine ultra speed and to fill it up with all 450 yards of 30# line and put it on a 6 rod that can hold 30-60#...I guess since I was raised my whole life on old school penn rods/reels I had my heart set on giving one to my son...any truth to all this based on yalls experiences?...any suggestions on what to purchase?...he will be doing some peer fishing but mainly 20 miles offshore in galveston or corpus..thanks
