There has been something that I have been wanting to say for quite some time and that is that many people these days only care about big headliners who come to town to play a party. You should be thankful that there are a handful of great resident DJs in each city and many of them from my personal experience have phenomenal skills and have even played sets that have been better than the talent coming into town.I can go on and on with naming names but that is not the point of what I am writing. I would go and see the opening acts at 10pm and watch how they laid the foundation for the night because it is important for those DJs to set the mood for the evening. These days people barely even show up to a party until very late, so you get to miss that very special experience. Also that art is almost forgotten as I see warm up acts banging it out thinking they are playing the main headliner slot. You have to take into consideration who is coming up next after you. Going and see Danny Tenaglia DJ, Junior Vasquez, Sasha and Digweed and many others from start to finish is an incredible journey on its own. If you are a DJ and want to grow, you should never pigeon hole yourself in one sound. Go out and find those records no one has, not play records that everyone has. That is what makes you stand amongst the crowd. Build a following. Dont play what is trendy. Residents are an important part of any club and any party because they are the ones who are the tone setters into what is to become an epic night. I read this article last week and it really sums up my thoughts. Must read for everyone.
