There has been this annoying phenomena in evangelical apologetics over the last several decades to observe successful tactics in debate by their opponents and then to copy the form in later debates. However, no actual attempt is made to understand the logic behind the argument; they just copy the form and try to turn it around which invariably makes them look retarded to people that actually understand the logic of an arguments. It seems that less learned apologetics students think that they can simply plug in the buzz words for their beliefs and the argument will remain valid always. This is obviously absurd. Having been badly infested by the evangelical right Republicans are now attempting the same thing. In the end of year shutdown and debt ceiling crisis Republicans made demands to defund the ACA and cut spending in exchange for reopening the government and Democrats pointed out that this was the equivalent of demanding a ransom. Now that Republicans have been pounded into the floor over the shutdown and it is time to start actual debate on how to get a permanent budget in place Republican Senator Mitch McConnell is claiming that Democrats are demanding a ransom. What are Democrats doing? They are offering to negotiate cuts in entitlement in exchange for raising taxes on the wealthy as part of a compromise to get us closer to a balanced budget. Once more, the Republicans want nothing to do with the give and take of cooperation and compromise; but now they are claiming that Democratic calls for compromise are equivalent to Republican demands for a ransom. The party of Lincoln has become the party of Bonzo thanks to deranged Reagan worshipers who act nothing like the Gipper himself. Behind the scenes Reagan understood compromise quite well but his followers only ape his public persona while trying to villainize concepts like compromise and cooperation. It is bedtime in America and Uncle Ronnie needs to tuck his damned chimp into bed before it rips the damned house apart.
