There have been reports of employers in New York City requiring employees who have recently traveled to Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia or Nigeria to get tested for #Ebola before being allowed to return to work or being told they cannot return to work. We remind employers and all New Yorkers that: • Traveling to an affected country does not mean you have #Ebola. • You cannot be infected simply by being near someone who has #Ebola. • #Ebola is spread by directly touching the bodily fluids of an infected person. • The only people at risk in the current outbreak are those who traveled to an affected country AND had direct contact with an #Ebola patient or their body fluids. • If someone visited one of the affected countries, but did not have direct contact with a person or animal with #Ebola, they are NOT at risk.
