There is a difference between actually reducing the power of the federal government and trusting the federal government to use its power with restraint. Congress by itself cannot reduce the power of the federal government, for Congress is itself part of the federal government, and any law that Congress can pass, it can repeal, and any law that it repeals, it can pass again. Simply to pass, fail to pass, or repeal a law may be a case of restraint, but it is not the abdication of any power, which is there whether it is currently being used or not. If you really want to reduce the power of the federal government, you must amend the Constitution. Many of my Facebook friends have advocated reducing the power of the federal government. If my reasoning above is good, this would require one or more amendments. My question is, what amendments would you propose?
