There is a difference between choosing a senator and watching a horse race. If you want to place a wager at a horse race you do not worry about which horse you hope will win. You bet on the one you think actually will win. The opposite should be true about candidates for senate. You should look at the stand on issues, voting records and such and chose the best candidate with out regard for sentiment or popularity. The trouble is that a lot of voters do not study the stands of the candidates. They just try to guess which one will win and jump on the band wagon. The single largest factor in political decisions is name recognition. Obviously I think that is not the best way to chose between candidates for office but if you really just want to jump on a band wagon here is something that will help you. Generally an incumbent starts a race with a huge lead and a challenger slowly catches up during the campaign. Challengers sometimes get close toward the end but never take a lead over an incumbent and challengers seldom win. If a challenger ever takes a lead over an incumbent he seldom falls back. With more than 6 weeks until the election, McDaniel has a statistical tie, which indicates he will likely win and win big. Cochran knows his troubles and has very few cards left to play. He has resorted to not only mud slinging but blatant lies. Watch your backs but do not lose heart.
