There is a lot of anti-religious sentiment on here and Im just wondering, isnt there more to being a rationalist and humanist than being anti-religion? In fact, that whole sentence just sounds wrong. To me, the whole point of being a humanist is the idea that we humans have our own intrinsic value without resorting to supernatural explanations of our existence. I dont think this makes humanists anti-religious, and I think, by focusing on religion, we have lost our way as a humanist organisation. I dont want to focus on human rights issues that would only affect me as a straight white male atheist. When I hear a story about a transgender teen whos family abandoned her because she couldnt identify as a male, I hope that organisations like ours can provide a voice for that person because we are pro-human, and humans come in many varieties. While we may think that religious people hold archaic beliefs, it doesnt affect us, but it affects them when we ridicule and belittle their beliefs. Our focus should be when it affects a persons ability to just be who they are.
