There is a move a foot to restrict the taking of photos in public, - TopicsExpress

There is a move a foot to restrict the taking of photos in public, Texas and other states are considering such laws. Historically if you are in public your picture can be taken. The historical concept is the public venue, is open. So what if they make laws requiring permission to take a picture before you can take it. That sounds good, or is it... The news media would have to get permission to take video or pictures in public. If you were taking pictures at a concert you would have to have permission of anyone who might be in the picture. Or if you take a picture at your kids little league game you again would have to have permission of anyone who might be in the picture. Or suppose you are shooting a wedding, or event or crisis, you would have to find each possible person in the picture and get permission. So then where does it stop. Consider some of the videos where police have been shown to be over stepping their boundaries. Would it then be illegal to shoot such video with out their permission? I can see why the government may like this law, It protects them from scrutiny. Then what about security cameras would they be banned, or outlawed as an invasion of our privacy. This is a big issue, that needs more scrutiny than a quick answer. I believe that in the public market it is just that public. What you do in public is not private, where you go in public is not private, the illusion many are living under is that anything is private. Now the laws being considered could effect anyone and everyone who takes a picture. suppose you do a family photography on vacation, you would then need a release from each person. (and keep a record of the release) . Think about it...
