There is a reason why I am upset with the recent revelation that MUIS is giving $250,000 to RRG. When I read the article, the first thing that came to my mind was the work a sister is doing to raise money for underprivileged Muslim children in Singapore. She informed me a few months ago that there are quite a number of Muslim children who need help. Some of the parents are in drug rehabilitation, some in jail, some of the kids need money for books, for study material. They need financial support and she had been working with donors to help these children. Then I thought about the single mother with 10 children that was featured recently. And how individuals are coming forward to help her. And I thought about all the Muslim students over the years, who had begged MUIS for financial help. These students pleaded for financial support from MUIS and they were rejected. There are so many other cases that I know. There are Muslims in poverty. They do not have enough to buy food for themselves and their children daily. They get small tokens of $30-40. Some do not have accommodation and have to resort to sleeping in public places. Our madrasah are always in severe need. And while there are so many Muslims who are in financial distress, MUIS gave a quarter of a million dollars to a group that works with the government. Subhanallah. How low has this community gone? We can turn a blind eye to those in need. We ignore those who are supposed to get the money. We neglect those who cry out to us. And gave so much money to a group working with the government. May Allah forgive this community. We ignore those who need us. And help those who are close to the government. May Allah forgive us all.
