There is a space in the upper back, between the shoulder blades, I - TopicsExpress

There is a space in the upper back, between the shoulder blades, I refer to it when teaching as the armor at the back of the heart. One of the current planetary energies is Mercury Retrograde. Just yesterday this was my focus and the Yoga sequence I taught in 3 classes. It came up again last night while I was sleeping, Kristen, Tara :) Our past and emotions are mirrored in the physical body and the body has a voice..... I always have work to do here and I welcome it, I see it in bodies when I teach, and students tell me there is some tightness in my upper back, shoulders, pinching..... So here it is..... with Mercury in Retro the past comes to the forefront- people from our past, situations, and conversations, so that we may revisit, review and move forward. In Yoga the back body represents the past, we do backbends to gently revisit the past so that we may move forward gracefully into the future :) Here is a short video and another description with a blanket. If you can breathe fully here for a few minutes- you will breathe some spaciousness around the past and find more freedom as you move into your future! Enjoy. Namaste! Supported Matsyasana (supported fish pose) This pose opens the chest and extends the thoracic spine (which begins at the bump at the back of your neck). 1. Grab two towels or blankets. 2. Roll them up, making one thicker than the other. 3. Lie flat on your back and place the smaller of the two towels underneath the bra-strap line. 4. Start with legs bent while the upper back softens and shoulders connect to the Earth. After a few minutes, if it feels safe, extend your legs and let the feet fall out naturally. 5. Place the thicker rolled-up towel under your head but be careful not to overextend the neck by lifting the chin too high or dropping it too low. 6. Now for Blissing out: rest each arm at about a 45-degree angle away from hips and place palms up, allowing your shoulders to drop open.
